Goal setting for trade shows

“Setting goals within any part of business is important and for exhibitions it’s critical. If you don’t have goals, you’re never going to know if the show was a success or not.”

Trade Show Planning

If you, and all your competitors were at a show that doesn’t have anyone attending, would you still show up? You need to be thinking, we’re going because a good amount of our customers are going to be there. Attending a trade show is all about ROI (return on investment), a word we LOVE here at Engage Exhibitions! We’re here to help you get massive results so investing in attending the event in the first place makes more sense.

Everything that you do to prepare and plan for a show, from designing your stand, organising your giveaways to booking accommodation for your team during the show, it’s all to help you reach your goals.

TIME TO SET THE RIGHT GOALS!

TIP 1
Take your time to strategise before the event and work out what your teams goals should be as well as individuals. Spend time working through the S.M.A.R.T framework…
Specific – who, what, where, when, why – what does success look like for you?
Measurable –
how will you definitively measure your goals i.e. number of leads or appointments made? This needs reviewing when you’re back from the event to confirm you have exceeded your targets and increased your ROI.
Achievable – is your goal actually attainable? Goals should motivate you and your team, not demotivate!
Relevant – are your goals relevant to the overall company goals? Do they match your marketing strategy? Make sure the goals you set will improve the business in some way.
Time-bound – pre-show goals, marketing etc. should be done in a timely manner. Be specific on the dates and timeframes relating to the results collected on site and following these up (we advise 3-5 working days after the show).

TIP 2
To set good goals, you have to have a baseline and understand your key metrics. Maybe you’re working off results from last years show? If you’ve never attended before, make an educated guess.

TIP 3
Go through the exhibitor list on the show website, make a list of competitors who are attending, take pictures of their stand design at the show, pick up their literature. Make a list of those potential clients or suppliers attending so you can tick off those conversations during the event. Exhibitions are a great way to catch up with your industry under 1 roof. Attack your show goals, stay focused and go after them.

BONUS TIP
Make your exhibition goals accountable by telling people about them. Make sure your boss or company director know all the goals you (and your team) are trying to achieve at the show, as this will 100% make you more driven to achieve these on site.
